Choosing the right location for your engagement or family session helps shape the feeling of your photos. Whether you’re drawn to desert landscapes, modern architecture, quiet neighborhoods, or somewhere meaningful to your relationship, the setting becomes part of your story. I’ve photographed sessions all over Arizona and created this collection of location ideas and photo examples to help inspire you as you start imagining your own.


Some couples choose a place they already love - like their favorite coffee shop, hiking trail, or neighborhood street - while others simply want beautiful light and scenery. As you browse through these locations, notice what feels most like you. If you're unsure where to start, don’t worry - I’m always happy to help suggest locations based on the season, lighting, and the overall vibe you’re drawn to.

 

Non - Desert


indoor Studios


Indoor natural light studios are such a beautiful option if you’re wanting something clean, minimal, and timeless. These spaces are designed with large windows that let in soft, even light - creating that bright, airy feel that photographs effortlessly in any season.


Studios can be found all across the valley and each one has its own unique style, from all-white modern spaces to more textured, cozy interiors. They’re perfect for a more controlled environment (hello AC in the summer 🙌), and a great choice for families, couples, or branding sessions.


Studio rentals typically range from $60–$150 per hour, and some locations may require a minimum booking time depending on the space.

Desert


papago park


Papago Park is one of the most versatile locations I offer. It truly has a little bit of everything. From iconic desert cacti and mountain views to waterscapes, open skies, and even palm trees, it gives you so much variety in one place (plus the classic Hole-in-the-Rock for that signature Arizona feel).


Centrally located in Tempe near the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden, it’s easy to get to from just about anywhere. It’s also a perfect choice for families and little ones, with plenty of space to explore while still creating beautiful, elevated images.

Desert


Desert Botanical Garden


The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix is such a stunning option if you want a more refined, elevated take on the desert. It showcases the beauty of Arizona in a really intentional way. There are perfectly maintained paths, curated cacti and desert plants, and clean, natural backdrops that photograph so beautifully.


What I love most about this location is how polished it feels while still staying true to the desert landscape. Every corner offers something different, from soft greenery to sculptural cactus gardens, making it easy to get a variety of looks in one session.


Just keep in mind that admission tickets are required for all for entry but it’s absolutely worth it for the experience and the setting.

Desert


usery mountain state park


This beautiful desert location is tucked near the Rio Salado Sportsman’s Club off Ellsworth Rd. An easy-access spot that still feels like a true Arizona escape. It’s full of everything we love about the desert: sculptural cacti, soft palo verde trees, and wide, open mountain views that glow at sunset.


If you’re drawn to something a little more elevated (and don’t mind a hike), we can head up a nearby trail in the park. The view at the top is absolutely worth it - expansive, quiet, and incredibly stunning for photos

Non - Desert


The Salt River


If you’re drawn to a softer desert feel without the cacti, the Salt River is such a beautiful option. Think golden palo verde trees, tall grasses, and natural boulders lining the water. It feels organic, calm, and effortlessly scenic.


The light here is everything. It filters gently through the trees, then melts into the dreamiest golden hour, followed by that soft blue hour glow once the sun dips behind the bluff. There are a few different access points along the river, including Coon Bluff, Water Users Recreation Area, and Phon D. Sutton Campground - each offering its own unique backdrop.

Butcher jones beach


If you’re dreaming of a beachy feel in Arizona, this is as close as it gets. Butcher Jones Recreation Area has that laid-back shoreline vibe with soft sand, water views, and a surprising amount of variety for your photos.


It’s a fun spot year-round. It's quiet and peaceful in the winter, and a little busier in the summer (but don’t worry, I’ve got you covered there!). With multiple backdrops to work with, it’s perfect for creating a mix of looks in one session. It’s also a great choice for families, and it’s dog-friendly too!

Tempe Beach Bridge


Tempe Beach Park is such a fun, modern option if you’re wanting something outside of the typical desert look. With the lake, city views, and that iconic bridge, it brings in a more urban, editorial feel while still staying light and airy.


One of my favorite things about this spot is how versatile it is throughout the day. The bridge creates beautiful, even shade, making it a great option for sessions at almost any time. If you’re drawn to something clean, minimal, and a little different, this is such a perfect choice.

Sometimes the simplest locations create the most meaningful photos. A local park or trail can be the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, nature-filled session - especially if it’s somewhere you already spend time together. Whether it’s walking your dog, going for weekend hikes, or just enjoying a quiet sunset, these familiar places often help couples feel more comfortable and present in the moment, which always translates beautifully in photos.

Non - Desert/Parking Permit


Saguaro Lake/Marina


Saguaro Lake and the marina are such a special option if you’re drawn to water but still love that desert backdrop. It’s the perfect blend of both - deep blue water surrounded by rugged desert landscape, and it photographs beautifully in every direction.


One of the things that makes this location really unique is that we can access more of the lake by boat (thanks to my husband), which opens up some incredible, tucked-away spots if it feels like the right fit for your session. It’s a bit of an adventure - and yes, you might get a little wet - but it makes for such a fun, unforgettable experience. If you’d rather stay on land, the marina and nearby docks still give you that lake feel without heading out on the water.


Just a heads up, a Tonto Pass is required for parking here and is typically around $12.

Non - Desert/Rental Fee


The Meadow


The Meadow in Mesa is a beautiful, private rental space if you’re dreaming of a lush, green setting without using a public park. The owners keep it feeling wild, natural, and full of life - it’s truly a little hidden oasis in the desert.


What makes this spot even more special is their on-site prop closet, available to rent for your session. It includes thoughtfully curated pieces like a couch, rugs, chairs, stools, pillows, and other charming details to elevate your photos and give them a more styled, editorial feel.


A $75/hour studio fee is required for this location.

Non - Desert


Downtown


If you’re drawn to something more modern and editorial, a downtown setting is the perfect contrast to nature. Think clean lines, concrete textures, city high-rises, and skyline views that feel effortlessly cool and elevated.


Parking garages are one of my favorite hidden gems for this look, and we can also incorporate rooftop bars or catch the sunset from above for something extra special. Downtown Phoenix, Chandler, and Gilbert are all great for wandering a few blocks and finding beautiful light, while Old Town Scottsdale adds a fun, lifestyle feel - perfect for stopping into your favorite bar or restaurant along the way.
